Philips Pixel Plus FlatTV models named European LCD and
Plasma TVs of the Year.Philips has received further prestigious
recognition for its acclaimed Pixel Plus television technology,
with two of its latest FlatTV™ models being named,
respectively, European LCD TV of the Year 2003-2004 and
European Plasma TV of the Year 2003-2004 by the European
Imaging and Sound Association (EISA).
The awards, given to the new Philips 30PF9975 LCD FlatTV
and the 42PF9965 plasma TV set, represent the fourth and fifth
EISA Awards for Philips’ FlatTV range, following European
FlatTV of the Year titles awarded in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
The 2003 awards also reinforce EISA’s recognition for
Philips’ PixelPlus technology represented by the European
TV of the Year 2002-2003 award given last year for the company’s
32PW9527 CRT set.
EISA is the largest editorial multimedia organisation in
Europe, with a membership of 50 audio, mobile electronics,
video and photography magazines drawn from 20 European countries.
Each year EISA judges review the latest plasma TV products
from consumer electronics and photographic equipment manufacturers
to determine the best in each category.
“This is an unprecedented double-win for Philips,”
says Rudy Provoost, Executive Vice-President, Philips Consumer
Electronics, Region Europe. “To win EISA awards in both
available flat panel TV categories (LCD and Plasma TV) , is
a fantastic endorsement for our FlatTV range, and our Pixel
Plus technology in particular.”
In its citation for the 42PF9965 Pixel Plus FlatTV –
named European Plasma Television of the Year 2003-2004 –
the EISA jury commented that the set: “…gives
the most detailed and lifelike images of any plasma TV on
the market today. It’s an ideal choice for high-impact,
big screen display of DVD, thanks to exceptionally strong
colour reproduction, and Philips’ sophisticated Pixel
Plus image enhancement technology.”
Similarly, EISA’s verdict on the 30PF9975 Pixel Plus
FlatTV – European LCD Television of the Year 2003-2004
– commented: “With its built-in tuner, progressive
scan and PC connectivity, plus Philips’ proprietary
Pixel Plus, Crystal Clear and Digital Natural Motion enhancements,
this is one chic, smart TV set.”
Pixel Plus makes a breathtaking difference in the image definition
of a standard television picture. By almost tripling the number
of lines and pixels per line, and then making each pixel extremely
sophisticated, Pixel Plus creates visibly higher definition,
enhancing details in a picture and making them more natural.
Philips’ Pixel Plus processing technology is capable
of calculating at a maximum picture resolution of the lines
and pixels per line, with processed pictures automatically
scaled to match the resolution of the screen the images are
being displayed on. Furthermore, Pixel Plus distinguishes
between signals from a standard TV broadcast and a digital
source like DVD to dynamically ensure optimum picture quality
at all times.
The EISA Award-winning Pixel Plus FlatTV sets are just two
of the 13-strong range of FlatTV models being offered by Philips
this year, matching increased consumer demand for flat-panel
television sets by introducing one of the most comprehensive
ranges of plasma TV and LCD TV sets in the consumer electronics
industry today.
- Total of 13 TV sets designed to bring the home entertainment
experience alive with sharper images and more natural colours
- A choice of ten screen sizes combined with highly attractive
designs to fit suit any room and any need
- Four plasma TV sets including a 37-inch (94cm) model,
32” (81cm), 42” (706cm) and 50” (127cm)
screen sizes, and a stunning new 30” (76cm) LCD set
- Seven widescreen models including 17” (45cm) and
23” (58cm) executions
- Three LCD portables in 13” (35cm), 15” (40cm)
and 20” (51cm)
Of the 13 models, five – including the two honoured
by the EISA judges – feature Pixel Plus. Pixel Plus
makes a breathtaking difference in the image definition of
a standard television picture, increasing the number of vertical
lines by 33%, doubling the number of pixels on a horizontal
line, and creating visibly higher definition as a result.
To help consumers decide which of the 13 2003 FlatTVs are
best for them, Philips has launched a dedicated FlatTV Internet
microsite, www.philips.com/flattv. The site contains comprehensive
features and specifications for every model in the range,
as well as background information on the technologies they
use, including Pixel Plus.
