Philips is to introduce one of the most versatile display
solutions ever offered business users with the launch of the
Brilliance 230W5 23-inch widescreen LCD monitor.
Built around a state-of-the-art 23-inch TFT lcd panel, the
230W5 offers ultra-high resolution of up to 1920x1200. Furthermore,
the large screen area enables effortless side-by-side viewing
of multiple applications or documents, and document windows,
enabling users to compare and edit figures, text and graphics,
and deal more efficiently with information than was previously
possible with smaller displays.
Such versatility enables the 230W5 to make a significant
contribution to productivity in data-rich, document management
environments such as banking, finance and insurance, publishing,
the creative industries, engineering and architecture, and
the legal industry. Indeed the 230W5’s extra-large display
area will be a particular boon to users like CAD/CAM-based
architects and engineers or graphic design and creative professionals,
who need to see as much as possible in a single view. The
screen’s wide area and rich levels of detail is further
enhanced by the ability to zoom in on detailed designs, page
layouts or spreadsheets. Lawyers will also enjoy the ability
to view two A4 documents side by side on the 230W5’s
wide 23-inch display area.
The 230W5 has been designed to meet the high demands of professional
applications where every detail counts. Its high display specifications
ensure brilliant, information-rich images with superior levels
of color and detail rendering, an extremely high contrast
ratio of 500:1, and high brightness of 250 nits with a fast
response time of 16 ms. The wide viewing angle of 176°
optimizes working efficiency and allows excellent visibility
when sharing images with groups of colleagues.
The 230W5 has a triple data input array, including VGA analog
(D-Sub) and DVI-I (digital and analog) inputs, enhancing the
monitor’s qualities as a high quality display platform
for both digital and analog signals. To compliment the monitor’s
display connectivity and performance, integrated audio speakers
complete the 230W5’s multimedia versatility.
The 230W5 maximizes its position as the dominant feature on
a professional users’ desktop by providing enhanced
access to data resources via an integrated universal memory
card reader. The 230W5’s UCR provides 6-in-1 reading
facilities for all popular kinds of removable cards including
Compact Flash, SD and Memory Stick media. This allows instant
viewing of digital images stored on the card via a very easy
to access interface.
Furthermore, the Philips 230W5 widescreen monitor also features
a USB 2.0 hub, providing quick and convenient connectivity
for a variety of USB devices. Philips has even installed a
USB slot on the front of the monitor for the easiest possible
transfer of information from ‘key ring’ USB memory
devices.
Instead of trying to access USB connections in awkward and
inaccessible places, especially on a desktop PC stored under
a built-in desk, the 230W5’s convenient USB access solutions
enables practical and optimum usage of USB-based devices such
as cameras and flash memory storage.
Philips has also addressed security considerations with the
230W5, enabling corporate customers to protect their investment
by making use of an integrated Kensington anti?theft lock
bracket. Use with a corresponding Kensington lock, greatly
reduces the possibility of theft.
Later this year, Philips will offer, as an optional add-on,
a new software solution to corporate customers manage monitors
including the 230W5 as part of their overall asset management
process. Philips SmartManage, to be introduced this summer,
will enable IT managers to remotely supervise PC monitors
equipped with this feature. SmartManage significantly enhances
security by allowing instant scanning of all connected assets,
regardless of whether they are actively in use or in sleep
mode.
SmartManage will additionally allow IT managers to monitor
the performance of displays, including checking run time,
user settings, power saving and more, all from a central,
remote location. This networking facility also enables IT
managers to send instant messages to monitor users, and to
carry out centralized adjustments of the monitor settings.
The Philips 230W5 23” LCD monitor is scheduled to be
introduced in March 2004
