Sony Electronics is continuing to broaden its line of Hi-Scan
1080i™ rear projection televisions with the introduction
of a 46-inch widescreen model.
Sony's first 46-inch rear projection television, the new
KP-46WT500 model combines technical and design enhancements
that result in a crisp, brilliant picture in a unique, thin
bezel tabletop design.
The new rear projection TV is equipped with many of the
high-performance features available on Sony's WS- and WV-series
models, including the Hi-Scan 1080i™ chassis, an integrated
Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection, DRC™
MultiFunction circuitry, an HD MicroFocus™ CRT, HD Detailer™
wideband video amp, MID™-X circuitry and SRS TruSurround™
sound.
"Sony now offers the widest variety of 16:9 rear projection
TV's in the industry," said Tim Alessi, director of marketing
for Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Division. "The
new KP-46WT500 model is the most compact widescreen size among
our rear-projection sets, yet it still packs the same punch
with innovative performance-enhancing features that result
in brilliant images and a rich home theater experience."
Sporting a unique, new design and equipped with proprietary
video technologies, the KP-46WT500 model is a terrific solution
for home theater enthusiasts who enjoy the rear-projection
TV viewing experience, but are not quite ready for a larger
57-inch or 65-inch set. The new model incorporates a Digital
Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection that enables copy-protected,
high-definition video content to be delivered to the TV from
a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compatible
set-top box, such as Sony's new SAT-HD200 receiver.
The KP-46WT500 features a number of proprietary innovations
found in other models in Sony's 2002 rear-projection TV line,
including:
- HD MicroFocus™ CRT with its increased beam strength
and 30-percent smaller spot size than conventional CRTs,
resulting in a brighter and sharper image; and
- HD MicroFocus lens system, which provides clearer focus,
resulting in breathtaking picture quality.
The new model also includes such outstanding performance
features as Digital Reality Creation Multifunction™
circuitry, CineMotion™ reverse 3:2 pulldown circuitry
for optimum film-based video source display, Multi-Image Driver-X
with Scrolling Channel Index™ system, and Flexible Twin-View™
2-tuner picture-and-picture.
In addition, with two HD component video inputs (Y/PB/PR)
and DVI-HDTV connection, the KP-46HT500 offers the highest
quality connections to DVD players, as well as outstanding
performance with HD receiver/decoders.
The new 46-inch model joins Sony's Hi-Scan® rear projection
line-up, which includes the HS-, WS- and WV-series models
in 51- to 65-inch screen sizes, and will be available in November
for about $1900. An optional stand, SU-46WT, will also be
available for about $200.
