The Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing
(CTAM) is partnering with Samsung to extol the benefits of
HDTV and promote new HD services to consumers. Samsung, which
claims to have produced the first integrated HD television
in 1998, will run commercials during the NCAA basketball tournament
that explains the features of HDTV. The company will also
offer $100 coupons with the purchase of any Samsung HDTV for
consumers to upgrade their cable TV service to include HD
channels.
In addition to its sales promotion, Samsung also offers an
interactive online guide to DTV at http://www.samsungusa.com/dtvguide,
which discusses the basics of DTV, the technology behind television
and different types of displays. Korea-based Samsung posted
sales of $36.9 billion in 2003, spread through its lines of
semiconductors, LCD displays, monitors, cellphones and VCRs.
