Television technology is moving faster than you can change
the channel, and interior design is adapting to keep pace.
Today's thinnest flat screen TV sets use LCD (liquid crystal
display) or plasma technology to deliver exceptionally clear
pictures. Because they don't need bulky cathode-ray tubes
for projection, they can have flat screens; some are only
four inches thick.
- Plan for the placement of the television. Cut out a cardboard
rectangle the size of the television and hang it on the
wall. This will give you an idea of how it with look and
whether it can be viewed comfortably.
- Think about extra equipment. Consider how much equipment,
such as a DVD player, will need to be attached to the television.
This will determine whether you will need a shelf or a cabinet
near the TV and how big it will be.
- Get creative. Many homeowners are putting the flat screen
TV above a fireplace, like a painting. Some interior designers
are hiding the flat screen behind sliding panels or curtains.
- Take advantage of accessories. Many flat screen TV models
come with flexible, pivoting arms. It allows the television
to be positioned in many ways.
- Hide the cords. If you install an outlet for the flat
screen television where the set will be hung, the outlet
and cord will be concealed.
