Continuing its move to provide consumers with high performance
options in the flat LCD panel television arena, Sony Electronics
today introduced its first flat LCD panel television for the
U.S. market. The 30-inch widescreen, high-resolution TV incorporates
the new WEGA Engine digital processing system and a chic,
modern design for sophisticated videophiles.
The new KLV-30XBR900 model features 1280 x 768 resolution
and a unique flat LCD panel television driver that delivers
exceptional, detailed picture quality. The new model is a
two-piece LCD panel and media receiver unit ensemble that
incorporates a stylish, floating flat LCD panel television
display designed to complement and enhance any entertainment
set-up.
"Our new XBR flat LCD panel television model with the
innovative WEGA engine system clearly demonstrates that all
flat panel TVs are not created equal," said Tim Baxter,
senior vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Visual
Network Products Division.
The new flat LCD panel television features Sony's proprietary
WEGA Engine™ system, which delivers superb picture quality
from any video source by minimizing the number of digital-to-analog
conversion processes and maximizing picture performance. This
full digital processing engine includes unique technologies,
including:
The first step in the digital processing system, Direct
Digital circuitry, which increases signal to noise ratio when
converting the signal from analog to digital;
Digital Reality Creation™ MultiFunction circuitry,
which gives viewers control over the level of DRC™ circuitry
depending on quality of input signal, thereby displaying clear,
stable images, no matter what the video source; and
MID™-X (Multi Image Driver), maintains the integrity
of a converted signal by minimizing image loss in the scaling
process, providing unique Flexible Twin View™ picture
and picture features.
Other unique digital processing technologies incorporated
are the LCD panel driver and CineMotion™ reverse 3:2
pulldown circuitry. The flat LCD panel television driver improves
fast-action, motion picture quality. The new set boasts a
wide viewing angle of 170 degrees further ensuring outstanding,
brilliant image display available even at wide viewing angles.
The advanced picture technologies of the KLV-30XBR900 are
complemented by a stylish design. The ultra-slim, floating
flat LCD panel television display is connected via a proprietary
A/V cable to the supplied Media Receiver Unit (MRU), a convenient
set-top box component that easily connects to any video and
audio source. The MRU houses the WEGA Engine system and all
necessary inputs, as well as a Memory Stick® media slot
for viewing JPEG images converted to high-definition quality.
The MRU also incorporates a Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV)
connection that enables copy-protected, high-definition video
content to be delivered to the unit from a DVI/HDCP (High-bandwidth
Digital Content Protection) compatible set-top box, such as
Sony's new SAT-HD200 HD/DIRECTV receiver.
In addition to the DVI-HDTV connection, the new WEGA®
flat LCD panel television includes six different inputs to
maximize the viewing experience. The new model offers versatile
options for connecting to a variety of audio and video components.
It has three S-video inputs, as well as two component video
inputs for connection to HD sources like digital satellite,
cable and HD receivers, and even a monitor out connection.
Convenience features include the Flexible Twin View™
feature, which allows simultaneous viewing of two programs
from two different sources side by side, and a Favorite Channel
function for previewing and selecting from eight channels.
Audio features in the flat LCD panel television include built-in
speakers, totaling 20-watts audio power, with TruSurround®
sound processing for a thrilling cinematic experience.
The KLV-30XBR900 30-inch flat WEGA LCD panel television
will be available in February for about $6,000.
