ViewSonic® Corporation, a worldwide Visual Technologies™
leader, today unveiled its first wide-format, 16:9 aspect
ratio HDTV LCD multimedia display, the NextVision™ N1700w,
at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association
(CEDIA) Expo. The NextVision N1700w HDTV LCD raises the performance
bar in a new display category that extends beyond the traditional
applications of a desktop computer monitor to include enhanced
television and entertainment capabilities, such as High Definition
Television (HDTV).
Unlike other LCD televisions on the market optimized only
for standard TV viewing, the UltraBrite™ ViewSonic N1700w
HDTV LCD combines superior computer display functionality
with the home entertainment technology requirements of the
future. It allows users to view all forms of digital and analog
content, including compatibility with HDTV receivers and set
top boxes, at resolutions of 480P, 720P and 1080i. It also
brings to the home smart features such as the ability to process
other popular entertainment formats—digital camera,
camcorder, video, games, Internet entertainment and superior
DVD viewing from any PC or DVD player.
"LCD technology is rapidly extending beyond the traditional
desktop monitor to accommodate the latest in digital content,"
said Gene Ornstead, director, product marketing, ViewSonic
Advanced Technologies Group. "The N1700w combines the
best of a monitor and HDTV LCD to give users the ultimate
desktop experience, from standard computer applications to
HDTV viewing."
At the suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1199, the N1700w
HDTV LCD offers a 17-inch wide-screen and enhanced viewing
with a 1280x768 resolution, more than 450 nits of brightness
and 450:1 contrast ratio. Multimedia enhancements include
3:2 pull down and a 3D digital comb filter that supports both
enhanced definition television (EDTV) and HDTV resolution
formats, and provides sharp, crisp images for optimum picture
detail.
In addition, the N1700w HDTV LCD delivers full-screen viewing
and picture-in-picture (PIP) capabilities for watching video
or TV content while working simultaneously on PC applications.
Multiview or POP allows users to create up to nine picture
windows on the screen for viewing multiple TV channels at
the same time. Advanced digital de-interlacing and image scaling,
high fidelity audio with a 20-watt integrated speaker system,
a 181-channel tuner and a slim-line remote control also are
standard. Visitors to ViewSonic booth #757 at CEDIA (located
in the Minneapolis Convention Center from Sept. 27 –
29) can experience the capabilities of the N1700w, along with
other ViewSonic next-generation visual technology products.
The ViewSonic N1700w HDTV LCD will be available later this
year through authorized resellers, retailers, distributors
and mail order. It is backed by a three-year limited warranty
on parts, labor and backlight, and is eligible for ViewSonic’s
optional Express Exchange® program, which guarantees a
replacement monitor within 48 hours where service is available.
