In a recent move, Sharp Business Systems India has decided
to stop focusing on its Sharp LCD monitors.
Arun Pujari, business development manager, Sharp Business
Systems, said, "The Sharp LCD monitors market in India
has not been maturing as expected, so we have taken a conscious
decision not to launch new models or further focus on this
segment in a big way."
Currently, the company plans to strengthen its business
in the digital copiers, projectors and faxes in the country
and slow down production of Sharp LCD monitors.
However, according to Pujari, "Though Sharp will not
introduce new Sharp LCD monitors in the country, the company
will continue to support its existing customers for services
as well as take new orders provided the customer is ready
to wait for the time it takes for shipping the products into
the country."
Because of the worldwide shortage of LCD panels, which started
around March 2003, the sliding prices of Sharp LCD monitors
came to a halt. Since then, prices have either remained steady
or gone up a little. The shortage of 15 inch Sharp LCD monitors
in the Indian market is also responsible for the popularity
of 17-inch CRT monitors.
