Plasma and LCD maybe the current hot property among display
units, but there is another technology stepping into center
stage: Digital Light Processing (DLP) televisions.
Texas Instruments created DLP TV in 1996, and DLP-based products
have previously been on the market. The DLP TV buzz at the
Consumer Electronics Show in January was palatable thanks
to the release of Samsung's 46-inch and 56-inch HDTV sets
utilizing the technology.
It's not slim enough to hang on a wall, but neither does
it have the performance issues of plasma or LCD--a big selling
point for DLP, which doesn't suffer from picture degradation
and burn rate over time. At just 100 pounds and 20 inches
deep, DLP table top projection TV sets may just bring in the
consumer hungry for an improved viewing experience for around
$3,000.
